Typhoon Alert

Natural calamities are simply uncontrollable but we can do something to keep ourselves from any harm that these calamities can bring. Listed below are 12 useful ideas or tips on what to do during the typhoon.
►Keep your radio open and try to get the latest bulletin from the Manila radio stations.
►Pay no attention to rumors. Rely on the official weather bureau warnings and bulletins.
►Stay away from low lying beaches or other locations which may be swept by high tides or storm waves. If your only passage to high ground is over a road likely to be under water during a severe storm, then leave early. Don’t run the risk of being marooned.
►If your house is out of the danger of high tide and is well built or anchored, then it is probably the best place to weather out the storm.
►Board up windows or put storm shutters in place. When you board up, use good lumber securely fastened. Make-shift boarding may do more damage than good.
►Get extra food, especially things which can be eaten without cooking or with little preparation. Remember that electric power may be cut off.
►If emergency cooking facilities are necessary, be sure that they are in order.
►Store water as water service may be cut off.
►Have a flashlight in working condition and keep it handy.
►Check on everything that may be away or turn loose. flying objects become dangerous during typhoons.
►Be sure that windows and doors can be opened on the lee side of the house – opposite the side facing the wind.
►If the eye of the tropical cyclone passes over the place, there maybe a lull lasting for a few minutes to half an hour. Stay in a safe place. Make emergency repairs during the lull if necessary but remember the wind will return suddenly from the opposite direction, frequently with even greater violence.
